Does riding in a wagon from the 1860s sound like an experience you’d like to try? Maybe taking a couple of horses out on the trail to explore the Big Island’s majestic landscape is more your cup of tea. Most people don’t think of cowboys or roping steers when they consider the islands. However, Hawaii has a long history of cattle ranching and the paniolo lifestyle has been part of our culture for over hundred and fifty years.
If you’re planning a day of horseback riding, you should have a look at some of the ranches around the Big Island. Some of them have working cowboys who can tell you stories about the Mexican vaqueros who taught the Hawaiians roping and guitar.
